EJOK is a joint initiative amongst three groups of people:
- the Turkana community who live around the villages of Louwae, Locher Akwan and Nakoret along the Kerio River Valley
- Kenyan and international scientists carrying out research in the area (IN-AFRICA Project, Turkana Human Biology Project)
- a group of University students from the UK and other countries who have volunteered to help build a classroom next August.
Scientific research and community projects in Turkana are supported by the Turkana Basin Institute.
